Blast from the Past... from DaySpringQuilter

So the sewing room got emptied and packed up yesterday.  There was a binder with printed pictures that I don't think have ever been scanned but they are now.

Who is the skinny young woman?  She's sewing on a vintage Kenmore (it wasn't vintage back then though LOL).  And she's sewing on a counter in the small laundry room.  I don't have the exact date but it's sometime between 1993 and 2000.  The baby who received this quilt is in her 20s now so it was probably closer to 2000.  What a blast from ...

Quilt Camp, Day #4 from From the Strawberry Patch...

She did it! She quilted her quilt, on the longarm, by herself! Wouldn't the first thing to do, after it's removed from the rails, be to wrap up in your quilt that's backed with royal purple Minkee? You betcha!

Quilt Camp, Day #3 from From the Strawberry Patch...

Day three of Quilt Camp was a momentous one! As you can see by the clock on the wall, all twenty blocks were completed before 11:00 AM! This was reason for celebration, and a well-deserved break before lunch.Today was a perfect day, weather-wise; jump roping and spending some time outdoors was a great outlet for expending energy. We had story time after that, time spent with my all-time favorite

The Future's Bright... from From the Strawberry Patch...

...for the next generation of quilt makers! Gregory was in the house today to quilt up his Star Wars top and get the binding attached. For him, to acclimate to the longarm and understand its workings were like a duck approaching a pond. It was 100% clear sailing all the way!He used an easy beginner pantograph: "Loop de Loop"; he was done and off the rails by lunchtime. The binding was attached

New Year, New Quilter from From the Strawberry Patch...

Gregory and his Star Wars quilt topOur two local grandchildren have had an extra week off from school this week. Gregory (and his sister) spent the day with us yesterday and helped us to un-decorate the house. There's something about packing away the trees and all the decorations that makes everything look so bare and wide-open; it's sort of a clean sweep and re-examination of spaces that, just

My First Quilt from The Quilt Ladies Book Collection

This is my first quilt
In the early 80's we moved to Burlington, Iowa, it's in the southeastern corner of the state on the Mississippi River and yes, I learned how to spell Mississippi.

My First Quilt

My First Quilt is all Squares

I had done some blocks, some pillows and then I saw in the paper a class being hosted by the local quilt group. I remember it being expensive and how I agonized over it for days. but, finally signed up.
The teacher was "Liz Porter" at the time she worked for one of the magazines, Better Homes maybe, but is was a wonderful day ...

The Write Stuff from From the Strawberry Patch...

Back in the early days of my quilt making past I had very few tools with which to work and I collected them slowly and judiciously. My sewing space, when I was a newbie quiltmaker, was a semi-finished corner of our basement. I had a sewing machine down there, a formica-clad kitchen table, chair, iron and ironing board; it was everything that I needed to work for a few hours in the afternoons when
